Sophie Garlotte began gymnastics at 18 months old in a mommy and me class. Sophie enjoyed the class and has loved gymnastics ever since! Sophie began competing as a level 3 at the age of seven in fall 2013. At her first meet of the season, the DGA District Qualifier, Sophie placed second on bars and beam, and first all around. Sophie finished her level 3 season at the Kurt Thomas Invitational where she placed eighth on beam.

As a level 4 during the 2014 season, Sophie began her season at the District 2 Qualifier. Here, Sophie placed eighth on beam. Sophie continued to improved throughout the season and went on to place fourth on floor at the District 2 Championships. Sophie competed a second year of level 4 in 2015 and had a great year. At the Texas North State Championships, Sophie placed second on beam with a 9.725. Sophie then went on to compete at the Texas State Championships and came home with a fifth place finish on bars and a fourth place finish on beam.

During the fall of 2016, Sophie competed level 5. Sophie began her season at the District 2 Qualifier where she won the all around and earned silver medals on vault and beam, and bronze medals on bars and floor. Sophie finished her season at the Texas State Championships where she had a fantastic meet, placing second on beam and in the all around as well as third on bars.

Sophie’s optional career began in January 2017 at the Texas Prime Meet. As a level 6, Sophie came home with a gold medal on beam and a bronze in the all around. Sophie brought it all together for the end of the season: the Texas State Championships. Here, Sophie had her best meet of the season, winning the beam and all around titles and placing second on bars and floor.

In 2018, Sophie began her level 7 season at the Friends Of Achievers Invitational. Sophie had a great first meet of the season and brought home a gold medal on bars as well as a silver in the all around. After competing many solid meets, Sophie competed at state where she placed third on bars and fourth all around, qualifying to the Region 3 Championships. At regionals, Sophie had her best meet of the season and finished first on bars and third all around.

Sophie began her 2019 level 8 season at the Kurt Thomas Invitational where she took fourth on bars. Sophie continued to improve throughout the season and went on to the Texas State Championships where she had a great meet, taking second on bars with a 9.750 and fourth all around. Sophie concluded her season at the Region 3 Championships and finished second on bars.

Currently, Sophie trains 25 hours per week under coaches Ned Lang, Steph Shields, and Courtenay Dickerson at Texas Dreams Gymnastics. In the future, Sophie’s goal is to qualify for a national competition.
