Payton Jones got her start in gymnastics at the age of five as she was bouncing off the walls as a kid. Payton tried dance before gymnastics, but didn't like it. After dance, Payton tried gymnastics and fell in love with it from the first class. Payton continued to progress through classes and was eventually invited to join the team program at Gymcats Gymnastics.
Payton began competing in September 2016 as a level 2. At her first meet, the Gymcats Brooklynn Mohler Invitational, Payton earned silver medals on vault, bars, beam, and in the all around. At her next three meets, Payton finished in the top three in the all around at each of the competitions. Payton continued to have a great level 2 season and went on to win the bars, beam, and all around titles as well as a bronze medal on vault at the Nevada State Championships.
Competing level 3 during the 2017-2018 season, Payton began her season at the Gymcats Invitational. Here, Payton won the bars title and finished sixth on beam, floor, and in the all around. In February 2018 at Vegas Magic, Payton had her best meet of her season, winning the vault, bars, and all around titles as well as third on floor. In March at the Nevada State Championships, Payton came home with a bronze medal on vault as well as fourth place finishes on beam and in the all around.
Payton began her 2018-2019 level 4 season at the Gymcats Invitational where she finished second on beam and third on vault, bars, and in the all around. In March 2019 at the Nevada State Championships, Payton came in third on vault and fifth on beam. Payton competed a second season of level 4 during the 2019-2020 season and began her season at the Gymcats Invitational where she won the vault title, came in second on bars, and third in the all around. Payton won her first all around title of the season at the Vegas Cup in January 2020 where she also won the floor title. Three weeks later, Payton won another all around title as well as the bars and beam titles at Dare to Dream Invitational. Payton was able to compete two more meets before the remainder of the season was canceled due to COVID-19.
As a level 5 during the 2020-2021 season, Payton began her season at the Gymcats In House Kick Off Meet where she won the vault title and came in second on beam and in the all around. Payton finished in the top five in the all around throughout the season and concluded her season at the Nevada State Championships with a third place finish in the all around.
Following her 2021 season, Payton switched from the developmental program to the Xcel program to compete Xcel Platinum during the 2021-2022 season. Payton began her 2021-2022 season at Flip For Fame. Here, Payton won the all around title.
Currently, Payton trains 10 hours per week under coaches Taylor and Kimmi at Gymcats Gymnastics. Payton's goal for her 2022 season is to have a successful first season in Xcel. Throughout the remainder of her gymnastics career, Payton's goal to keep having fun and love gymnastics.
