This weekends’ exciting matchup between two in-state rivals saw NC State defeat North Carolina at home, 195.850-193.700.
The host Wolfpack posted a low 48.475 on vault in the opening rotation, however, it was enough to take the lead over the Tar Heels, who totaled a mere 47.325 on bars. This disappointing rotation for the Tar Heels, in which Grace Donaghy posted the highest score, a 9.725, ultimately put a damper on the upcoming three rotations for North Carolina.
The Wolfpack expander their lead in the second rotation when they tallied a season high 49.200 on bars. Lauren Kent greatly contributed to this total with a huge 9.900 on her beautiful routine. On the opposing side, North Carolina attempted to bounce back from their lackluster opening rotation with a solid 48.950. This score was made possible by two 9.850s from stars Khazia Hislop and Mikayla Robinson.
In the third rotation, the Wolfpack’s 48.975 on beam exceeded the Tar Heels’ 48.200 on floor. However, North Carolina’s season-high 49.225 on beam in the final rotation was the strong ending the Tar Heels desired after recovering from their bars rotation. The Tar Heels’ Hislop and Jamie DeCicco each scored a 9.900 on the event to close the meet. Unfortunately, this impressive rotation was not enough to succeed NC State when they posted a 49.200 on floor and the Tar Heels fell to the Wolfpack.Tags: EAGL, Grace Donaghy, Jamie DeCicco, Khazia Hislop, Lauren Kent, Mikayla Robinson, NC State, NC State Wolfpack, NCAA Gymnastics, North Carolina, North Carolina Tar Heels
