Malaina Burke started out as a dancer at the age of 18 months and began competing as a part of her dance studio's mini-dance team at the age of three. She then wanted to try gymnastics after watching her older sister compete and began taking classes at the age of three. Malaina was later invited to join the Xcel team program at North Shore Gymnastics but then went on to join the developmental program. Malaina began competing as a level 1 during the 2016-2017 season and began her season at the Judges Holiday Classic where she won the vault, beam, floor, and all around titles.

Competing level 2 in 2017, Malaina began her season at Tricks and Treats where she won the vault, beam, floor, and all around titles. Malaina also won the vault, beam, and all around titles at her next two meets. In March at the Louisiana State Championships, Malaina won a gold medal on vault, silver medals on bars, beam, and in the all around, and a bronze medal on floor.

Malaina kicked off her 2018-2019 level 3 season at the Tricks 'N Treats Invitational. Here, Malaina won the floor and all around titles. At her next meet, the North Shore Classic, Malaina won the beam and floor titles as well as a second place all around finish. Two months later at the Louisiana State Championships, Malaina concluded her season with a top five finish on floor.

As a level 4 during the 2019-2020 season, Malaina began her season at the Tricks 'N Treats Invitational. Here, Malaina earned a silver medal on beam. Malaina was able to compete three more meets before the season was canceled due to COVID-19. She had her best performance of her season at the North Shore Classic where she finished second on floor and in the all around as well as third on vault and beam.

Competing level 5 during the 2020-2021 season, Malaina kicked off her season at the Louisiana Light Invite where she won the beam title and finished second on bars and in the all around. At her next meet, the North Shore Classic, Malaina won the beam title and took home second on vault, bars, and in the all around. In March at the Louisiana State Championships, Malaina won the beam title, came in second on bars, and third on vault and in the all around.

Malaina began her optional career in January 2022 as a level 6 at the North Shore Classic. Here, Malaina won a gold medal on vault and bronze medal on floor.

Currently, Malaina trains 20-23 hours per week under coaches Jon Zugg and Nataliya Goldberg at North Shore Gymnastics. Malaina's goal for her 2022 season is to qualify to the Region 8 Championships. In the future, Malaina hopes to earn a college scholarship for gymnastics.
