Lila Mendicino got her start in gymnastics at the age of eight after she started doing handstands and cartwheels at the beach and asked to start gymnastics. Soon after beginning classes, Lila was invited to join the team program at TAG USA Gymnastics.
Lila began competing in October 2018 as a level 2. At her first meet of the season, the Candy Corn Invite, Lila earned a silver medal on floor. In November at the Florida State Championships, Lila came home with silver medals on vault, beam, and floor and bronze medals on bars and in the all around.
Following her 2018 level 2 season, Lila began training at Park Avenue Gymnastics and tested out of level 3 to compete level 4 during the 2019 season. At her first level 4 meet, Lila came home with bronze medals on vault, floor, and in the all around. Throughout the season, Lila finished in the top three in the all around at each of the meets. Lila had her best meet of her season at the Gasparilla Classic where she won all four events and the all around. Lila concluded her level 4 season at the Tim Rand Invitational with wins on vault, beam, floor, and in the all around.
Lila began her optional career in January 2021 as a level 6 at the Cruise Classic. Here, Lila finished third on bars, beam, floor, and in the all around. Lila continued to improve throughout the season and went on to win the beam, floor, and all around titles at the Florida State Championships.
After her 2021 level 6 season, Lila began training at American Twisters Gymnastics. Lila kicked off her 2022 level 7 season at the Tampa Bay Turners Invitational where she won the vault title, took second on floor, and third on beam and in the all around. At her next meet, the Sun & Surf Spectacular, Lila won the vault and all around titles.
Currently, Lila trains 22.5 hours per week under coaches Christina Ramirez and Gary Anderson at American Twisters Gymnastics. Lila's goal for her 2022 season is to qualify to the Region 8 Championships and score a 9.8 or higher on floor. In the future, Lila hopes to compete level 10 and earn a college scholarship for gymnastics.
