Biography
Kiera Harris got her start in gymnastics at the age of seven after starting in cheer and taking tumbling classes. Kiera's cheer coach told Kiera that she should start gymnastics because her tumbling was advanced. Kiera tried a recreational class at a local gym. After the tryout, Kiera was offered a spot on the gymnastics team. Kiera began competing in fall 2014 as a level 3 and went on to compete at the Texas South State Championships where she placed second on bars.
Kiera began her optional career in January 2016 as a level 6 at the Galveston Island Winter Beach Blast where she placed sixth on beam and floor. Kiera continued to improve throughout the season and finished her season at the Texas State Championships as the bars champion.
As a level 7 in 2017, Kiera began her season at the Texas Shootout. Here, Kiera placed fifth on floor. Kiera had a great level 7 season and went on to win the bars title and take second on floor and in the all around at the Texas State Championships. From state, Kiera qualified to the Region 3 Championships where she placed second all around and third on floor.
In 2018, Kiera competed level 8 and kicked off her season at the Alamo Classic where she won the vault, bars & AA titles. At the Texas State Championships, Kiera won the vault and bars titles and went on to the Region 3 Championships where she won the vault and all around titles. Following her level 8 season, Kiera competed in the Auburn Elite Qualifier and earned her Hopes 12-13 compulsory score, concluding her 2018 season.
Kiera began her 2018-2019 level 9 season at the Atlantis Crown Invitational where she won the vault title. Three months later at the Texas State Championships, Kiera earned a bronze medal on vault and qualified to the Region 3 Championships. At regionals, Kiera finished in the top 5 on vault and floor and finished seventh all around, qualifying to represent Region 3 at the Western Championships. Kiera concluded her season at Westerns earning a medal on vault.
Competing a second season of level 9 in 2020, Kiera began her season at the California Grand Invitational where she won first place on vault. Kiera was able to compete five more meets before the season was canceled due to COVID-19. At three of these five meets, Kiera won the all around title. She had her best performance of the season at the Chow's Challenge where she won the vault, bars, and all around titles.
Currently, Kiera trains 37 hours per week under coaches Dan and Ashley Baker at Stars Gymnastics Academy in Houston, TX. In the future, Kiera's goal is to earn a scholarship to a division 1 school for gymnastics.
