Katlyn Sawyer began gymnastics at the age of three after being enrolled in a recreational class. Katlyn loved gymnastics right away and progressed quickly.
Katlyn began competing in 2008 as a level 2 with Yellow Jackets Gymnastics Club. During the 2009-2010 season, Katlyn competed level 4 and went on to sweep the competition at the Massachusetts State Championships, winning all four events and the all around title. As a level 5 during the 2010-2011 season, Katlyn won the Massachusetts State all around title for the second time as well as the beam title. Katlyn competed her last year of compulsories during the 2011-2012 season as a level 6 and had a great season.
Katlyn began her optional career in November 2012 as a level 7. Katlyn continued to compete level 7 through the 2013 spring season and finished second on vault at state.
In 2014, Katlyn competed a few meets of level 8 and then went on to compete level 10 with 10.0 academy during the 2015-2016 season. As a first year level 10, Katlyn finished second on vault, floor, and in the all around at the Massachusetts State Championships. Katlyn then advanced to the Region 6 Championships where she finished second on vault, third on beam and floor, and fifth all around, qualifying to the JO National Championships. At JO Nationals, Katlyn had a solid meet to close her season and finished in the top 15 on vault.
Katlyn began her 2017 season at The Atlanta Crown Invitational. Here, Katlyn won the vault title. Three weeks later, Katlyn earned her junior elite compulsory score. Katlyn concluded her 2017 season at the Massachusetts State Championships where she finished second on floor.
Following her 2017 season, Katlyn began training at Brestyan's. Katlyn qualified to the JO National Championships for her second time and had her best meet of the season.
As a third year level 10, Katlyn began her season at the Myrtle Beach Gymnastics Cup. Here, Katlyn finished third in the all around.
Currently, Katlyn trains 28 hours per week under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan at Brestyan's Gymnastics. Katlyn's goal for the 2019 season is to score a 38.00 in the all around, qualify to JO Nationals, and qualify elite. In the future, Katlyn hopes to earn a scholarship to a divison 1 school for gymnastics.
