Sixth-ranked Georgia hosted Arkansas for an SEC showdown this Friday night in Athens, and both teams put on a show for a huge crowd inside Stegeman Coliseum.
Georgia started out with a huge vault rotation, with a trio of huge scores- a 9.900 for Sabrina Vega, 9.925 for Rachael Lukacs, and 9.950 for Sydney Snead, leading Georgia to an opening 49.4. Arkansas pushed through a few mistakes to put up a 48.75 on uneven bars, with a 9.850 from Kennedy Hambrick the high score for the Razorbacks.
Georgia extended its lead with a solid uneven bars rotation, avoiding the errors and falls that plagued the Gymdogs the last three weeks. Rachel Dickson and Snead leading the pack with a pair of 9.900s. The 49.275 from Georgia on bars was just a tenth higher than Arkansas’ second rotation vault total, as Arkansas went 49.175 with a 9.875 from Amanda Elswick the leading score.
The momentum continued for the Bulldogs in rotation three, and they took to balance beam and began and ended with the high scores, a 9.900 from Snead in the leadoff position and 9.925 from Vega as the anchor. Arkansas’ best rotation of the night came on floor exercise, the rotation scoring a 49.275 with Sydney McGlone notching a 9.900 and Sophia Carter with a huge 9.950 for the Gymbacks.
The home team closed out the meet with their strongest rotation, as Georgia finished with a 49.475 on floor exercise. Lukacs posted a 9.900 for her dynamic, powerful routine, and Dickson and Vega both scored 9.950s to give Georgia a season high of 197.475 to begin February. Arkansas closed out strong on balance beam, with a trio of 9.825s from Carter, Hambrick, and Jessica Yamzon leading a 48.925 rotation that closed out a 196.125 performance. Georgia’s Sydney Snead and Rachel Dickson tied for the all-around title with matching 39.575 scores, and both teams should be very pleased with their scores from the competition as they continue into the peak of the regular season this month.Tags: Amanda Elswick, Arkansas, Arkansas Razorbacks, Georgia, Georgia Bulldogs, Jessica Yamzon, Kennedy Hambrick, NCAA Gymnastics, Rachael Lukacs, Rachel Dickson, Sabrina Vega, SEC, Sophia Carter, Sydney McGlone, Sydney Snead
