Gabriela Ursu got her start in gymnastics after trying out many different activities at a young age and eventually fell in love with the sport at age four. Gabriela began competing at the age of five in 2015 as an Xcel Bronze Gymnast. In 2016, Gabriela competed level 3 and finished fifth all around at the Illinois State Championships. As a level 4 in 2017, Gabriela finished fifth on bars and beam at state.
Gabriela’s optional career began in 2017 as a level 6. In 2018, Gabriela competed level 7 and finished second on beam with a 9.750 at the Illinois State Championships and qualified to the Region 5 Championships. At regionals, Gabriela posted her personal best all around score - a 37.300.
Gabriela began her 2018-2019 season as a level 8 at the Aspire Classic where she took 12th on beam. Gabriela continued to improve with each and every meet and took ninth on bars at the Illinois State Championships. From state, Gabriela also qualified to the Region 5 Championships where she closed her season with a top 10 finish on beam. During the summer of 2019, Gabriela participated in TOPs Testing. Gabriela had a fantastic TOPs season, qualifying to National Testing and finishing as one of the top gymnasts, earning a spot on the TOPs National A Team and an invite to Developmental Invite Camp.
Competing level 9 in 2020, Gabriela began her season at Leenda's Island Adventure where she won the beam title and finished fourth all around. Two weeks later, Gabriela compete at the Buckeye Classic where she earned her Hopes 10-11 compulsory score.
Currently, Gabriela trains 22 hours per week under coaches Brittany and Matt Delk, Shannon Murphy, and Keith Carter at Naperville Gymnastics Club. In the future, Gabi hopes to earn a spot on the US Olympic team.
