Emily Lawrence got her start in gymnastics at the age of six while she was trying all different sports. Gymnastics ended up being Emily's favorite sport, and she continued to take classes and was eventually invited to join the team program at XGTC. Emily began competing in December 2016 as a level 3. At her first meet, the American Flyers Cup, Emily came in the top 10 on vault, bars, and beam. Emily competed level 3 through the spring 2017 season and went on to win the beam title and take fifth on floor and in the all around at the Maine State Championships.
Competing level 4 during the 2017-2018 season, Emily began her season at the American Flyers Cup where she finished in the top 5 on vault, bars, and in the all around. At her next meet, the Winter Windjammer, Emily won the vault, beam, floor, and all around titles. In April, Emily competed at the Maine YMCA State Championships and won the vault title as well as third on bars. From state, Emily qualified to the YMCA Northeast Regional Championships and came in fifth on vault and beam.
In her last year of compulsories during the 2018-2019 season, Emily competed level 5. Emily began her season at the Winter Windjammer where she won the bars, beam, floor, and all around titles. Three months later at the Maine State Championships, Emily came in third on beam and floor.
Emily began her optional career in December 2019 as a level 6 at the American Flyers Cup. At this meet, Emily came in sixth on vault. Emily was able to compete four more meet before the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and had her best meet at the Frostbite Invite where she came in second on bars and floor.
As a level 7 in 2021, Emily kicked off her season at Walk Like an Egyptian and came in second on floor. In March at the Maine State Championships, Emily took second on vault and third on floor. From state, Emily qualified to the Region 6 Championships where she came in the top 12 on floor.
Currently, Emily trains 16-20 hours per week under coaches Mikell Grant and Shannon Grant at XGTC. Emily's goal for the 2022 season is to compete level 8. In the future, Emily hopes to compete for a college gymnastics team and then become a veterinarian or a doctor.
