Biography
Emalani Capistrant got her start in gymnastics at the age of four in preschool classes. Emalani took to the sport right away and began competing in the fall of 2016 as a level 3 with California Gymnastics Academy. In her first season of competitive gymnastics, Emalani finished second at her first meet and then went on to win the all around at all of the remainder meets of her season including the NorCal North State Championships where she won the beam title as well.
As a level 4 during the 2017 season, Emalani got her season started at the NorCal Judges Cup where she won the vault title and came in second on bars and in the all around. In November at the NorCal State Championships, Emalani won the beam and all around titles. Emalani competed a second season of level 4 in 2018 and had a fantastic year going nearly undefeated. She concluded her season at state with wins on bars, beam, floor, and in the all around.
Emalani competed one meet of level 5 during the spring of 2019 and then began training at Airborne Gymnastics. Emalani competed level 5 through the 2019 fall season and finished in the top two at each meet. At the NorCal State Championships in November, Emalani won the bars and all around titles as well as second place finishes on vault and floor.
Emalani began her optional career in January of 2020 as a level 6. At her first meet of the season, Emalani won the beam title and came in third in the all around. At the next three meets of her season, Emalani won the all around titles. Emalani had her best meet of her season at the Brestyan's Las Vegas Invitational where she won the beam title with a 9.9 as well as the vault and all around titles. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Emalani's season was cut short as the remainder of the season was cancelled.
Currently, Emalani trains 16.5 hours per week under coaches Donna Craig and Anna Mallardi at Airborne Gymnastics. Emalani's goal for the 2021 season is to score a 9.9 for the second year in a row and make the NorCal State Team at Regionals. In the future, Emalani hopes to be a part of a college gymnastics team and score a perfect 10.0.
