Ella Zirbes got her start in gymnastics at the age of three, and began competing at the age of seven in 2012 as a level 4 with Flips Gymnastics. In 2013, Ella competed a second year of level 4 due to the USAG skill/level change. Ella went on to win the bars title and place second on vault at the Minnesota Level 4 State Championships.

Ella’s optional career began in 2015 as a level 6. At her first meet of the season, the Gopher Invite, Ella won the vault and all around titles. Ella also won the all around title at her second meet, and continued to place in the top 2 in the all around throughout the season. At the Minnesota State Championships, Ella won the bars, floor, and all around titles. In 2016, Ella competed level 7. Ella went nearly undefeated in the all around throughout the season, including at state where she won the bars, floor, and all around titles. As a level 8 during the 2017 season, Ella had another great season and placed in the top 3 in the all around all season long. At the Minnesota State Championships, Ella had a fantastic meet, winning all four events and the all around with a huge 39.025. Ella went on to make the State Super 8 team and represented the state of Minnesota at the Region 4 Championships. Ella had another fantastic meet at regionals, winning the floor and all around titles as well as taking home a silver medal on vault and bronze on bars.

Coming off of a fantastic level 8 season, Ella skipped level 9 and went on to compete level 10. Ella also had the goal to qualify Hopes. At her first level 10 meet, Ella placed second on vault. Just over a month later, Ella competed at the City of Lights National Elite Qualifier. On the first day of competition, Ella competed in the Hopes Compulsory competition and earned her Hopes compulsory score. Ella also had the highest Hopes 12-13 compulsory all around score with a 36.125. On the second day of competition, Ella scored a 47.350, just missing the Hopes qualification score. However, just a month later, Ella came back strong and scored a 49.150 at the KPAC Cup National Elite Qualifier, qualifying for the 2018 Hopes Classic. Three weeks after qualifying Hopes, Ella competed at the Minnesota State Championships. Ella had a great meet and walked away with gold medals on vault, bars, beam, and in the all around. Ella moved on to the Region 4 Championships where she won the vault title and place eighth all around, qualifying as a first alternate to the JO National Championships. While Ella’s JO season had concluded, her Hopes season was just beginning. Ella competed at the Auburn National Elite Qualifier in May for experience and to prepare for the Hopes Classic. Here, Ella placed third on floor. On July 6, Ella competed at the Hopes Classic and had the meet of her life. Ella stayed solid on all four events and finished third all around, qualifying to the Hopes Championships at the end of the month. At the Hopes Championships, Ella started off on beam where she didn't have her best routine, but came back to dazzle on floor and went on to tie for the gold medal on that event. Ella also finished fourth on vault and fifth on bars, a great conclusion to a fantastic season.

Ella began her 2019 level 10 season at the Chow's Winter Classic Invitational where she took third on bars. Two weeks later, Ella competed at the Buckeye National Elite Qualifier. Here, Ella earned her junior elite optional score, qualifying her to the US Classic. In March at the Minnesota State Championships, Ella won the vault and all around titles and took second on floor. Ella had another successful competition at the Region 4 Championships, winning the vault, bars, floor, and all around titles, qualifying to the JO National Championships. JO Nationals was a great level 10 season finisher for Ella as she won the bars title with a 9.750 and the all around with a 38.725.

Following a fantastic level 10 season, Ella kicked off her 2019 elite summer season at the Auburn National Elite Qualifier at the beginning of June to prepare for her upcoming classic competitions. One week later, Ella competed in the Junior World Championships Trials Competition - a huge accomplishment for a first year elite gymnast! Then, another week later, Ella competed at the American Classic in Salt Lake City, UT where she finished sixth on vault and seventh on floor. At the end of July, Ella competed in her first major elite competition: the GK U.S. Classic. Here, Ella had a fantastic meet and earned her qualifying score to advance to the U.S. Championships. Ella concluded her season three weeks later at the U.S. Championships. This was Ella's first two day elite competition and concluded her season with a solid performance on both days of competition.

Currently, Ella trains 26-30 hours per week under coaches Lori and Bart Rososki at Flips Gymnastics in Minnesota. Ella is verbally committed to the University of Utah and will join the team in the fall of 2023.
