Carys Coker began gymnastics taking classes at the age of five. Shortly after beginning gymnastics, a coach at Carys' gym, Gymnastix Training Center, noticed her talent. Carys began competing in the fall of 2013 as a level 1 and went on to win the Georgia State vault, floor, and all around titles. As a level 2 during the spring 2014 season, Carys won the vault title at state. Carys competed level 3 in 2015 and finished as the Georgia State beam champion and all around bronze medalist. Carys competed her last year of compulsories in 2016 as a level 4 and went on to take home gold medals on vault, floor, and in the all around at state.
Carys began her optional career in 2017 as a level 7 at the Atlanta Centennial Classic where she finished second on beam and floor and third on vault. Two months later at the Georgia State Championships, Carys finished in the top 5 on vault, beam, floor, and in the all around and qualified to the Region 8 Championships. At Regionals, Carys took sixth on floor.
Competing her first season of level 8 in 2018, Carys and her team traveled to Irving, Texas for the Texas Prime Meet and Carys finished second on bars and in the all around. Progressing throughout the season, Carys concluded her season at the Georgia State Championships where she took home the floor title and finished third on beam.
Following the 2018 season, Carys and her family moved to Utah, and Carys began training at Olympus Gymnastics. Carys competed a second season of level 8 in 2019 and began her season a the Lady Luck Invitational where she won the beam title with a 9.750. Carys continued to have a great season and went on to win the beam, floor, and all around titles at the Utah State Championships. From the State Championships, Carys qualified to represent the state of Utah at the Region 1 Championships as a member of the State Team. At Regionals, Carys received her best all around score of the season, a 38.100, and finished sixth on bars and floor, concluding her season.
Currently, Carys trains 25 hours per week under coaches Ryan Kirkham, Jessica McDonough, Tasmin Finn, and Kyra Morgan. In the future, Carys hopes to earn a college scholarship for gymnastics.
