Following the 2018 U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Boston and the naming of the U.S. Senior National Team, national team members Jade Carey, Trinity Thomas, Kara Eaker, Grace McCallum, and Shilese Jones have been named to the US team for the Senior Pan American Championships next month in Lima, Peru. Alyona Shchennikova of 5280 Gymnastics has been named as the alternate for the team.
Carey, a silver medalist on the vault and floor exercise at the 2017 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, leads the way for the US team along with Thomas, who won a silver medal this year at the Tokyo World Cup. Grace McCallum of Twin City Twisters has also impressed internationally, winning the gold in the all-around at this year’s Pacific Rim Championships on her international elite debut.
Two gymnasts who majorly impressed this weekend at the U.S. Championships in Boston, Kara Eaker and Shilese Jones, round out the American Pan Ams squad. Eaker of GAGE owns one of the most difficult and well-executed balance beam sets in the world, helping her to a beam silver, seventh all-around, and a spot on the US National Team for the first time. Jones of Future Academy is an all-around threat, with consistent gymnastics and her powerful vaulting helping her to fifth all-around at nationals this weekend.
Shchennikova, the alternate for the US Pan Ams team, won the US Classic all-around title in 2017 and is very talented on the uneven bars, with a very difficult set there.
The Senior Pan American Championships will run from September 14-16 in Lima, Peru and will serve as the qualifier to the Pan American Games in the summer of 2019 back in Lima.Tags: Alyona Shchennikova, Grace McCallum, Jade Carey, Kara Eaker, Pan American Championships, Shilese Jones, Trinity Thomas, United States
