Ava Vander Jagt got her start in gymnastics after starting to climb out of her crib at just 14 months old. She was extremely strong at a young age, so her parents put her in a gymnastics class. Ava started competing in 2013 as a level 3, and competed level 4 in 2014 and level 5 in 2015.
Ava began her optional career in 2017 as a level 6 and went on to compete at the New Mexico State Championships where she placed eighth all around. Ava competed level 7 in 2018 came away with the silver medal on beam and bronze medal on vault at the State Championships. Ava also qualified to regionals where she placed in the top 10 on beam.
As a level 8 in 2019, Ava began her season at the California Grand Invitational where she finished in the top 15 on all four events and in the all around. Two months later at the New Mexico State Championships, Ava concluded her season with a solid competition and a third place finish on beam.
Currently, Ava trains 12-15 hours per week under coaches Neale Schwarting, Jessica Dumond, and Judit Swabo at Zia Gymnastics. In the future, Ava hopes to compete in college gymnastics.
