Avalon Angell got her start in gymnastics at the age of six after playing baseball and wanting to try a new sport. Avalon loved the sport right away and began competing in the spring of 2013 as a level 4 with Desert Lights Gymnastics. At her first meet, Avalon finished second on bars, beam, floor and in the all around. Avalon continued to have a great level 4 season and went on to finish second on beam at the Arizona State Championships. Avalon competed four more meets of level 4 during the spring 2014 season and won the all around title at three of the meets and won the beam title at all of her spring meets. Avalon competed her final season of compulsories during the fall 2014 season and had her best meet of her season at the Route 66 Classic where she won the vault, bars, beam, and all around titles.

Avalon began her optional career in January 2016 as a level 7 at the Fiesta Bowl Invitational. Here, Avalon finished fourth on bars and in the all around. Avalon improved throughout the season and went on to have a fantastic showing at the Arizona State Championships where she won the beam and all around titles as well as third place finished on vault and bars. From state, Avalon moved on to the Region 1 Championships where she concluded her season with third place finishes on bars and in the all around.

Competing level 8 in 2017, Avalon began her season at the Flames Invitational where she finished second on floor. One week later at the Winter Sun Invitational, Avalon won the vault, floor, and all around titles. In March at the Arizona State Championships, Avalon finished sixth on bars and seventh on beam. Avalon finished up her season three weeks later at the Region 1 Championships taking sixth place on vault.

Avalon kicked off her 2018 level 9 season at the Palm Springs Cup where she finished in the top 5 on vault, bars, floor, and in the all around. Avalon improved throughout each and every meet and went on to win the beam title and take third all around at state. Avalon finished up her season at regionals with an eighth place finish on beam.

Following her 2019 season, Avalon decided she wanted to try cheer but after one season decided to go back to gymnastics. Avalon competed a second year of level 9 during the 2020 season and began her season at the Palm Springs Cup where she finished second on vault.

Currently, Avalon trains 22-24 hours per week under coaches Lisa, Shilo, Zaria, Shawn, Bob, and Bruce at Desert Lights Gymnastics. This season, Avalon's goal is to earn a state title. In the future, Avalon hopes to earn a college scholarship for gymnastics.
