Aaliyah Oglesby began gymnastics at the age of three and instantly loved it. Aaliyah progressed quickly and began competing in the fall of 2015 as a level 3 with Aftershock Gymnastics. Aaliyah had a great first season of gymnastics and finished second on bars and third on vault at the SoCal South State Championships. Aaliyah competed a second year of level 3 during the 2016 season and finished first all around at her first four meets. At the SoCal South State Championships, Aaliyah won the bars title, placed second on vault and in the all around, and third on floor.
In 2017, Aaliyah competed two meets - one meet of level 3 and one of level 4, both of which she won the all around in. During the summer of 2017, Aaliyah participated in TOPs Testing and qualified to TOPs National Testing.
Following National Testing, Aaliyah skipped level 5 and spent the fall preparing for her 2018 level 6 season. Aaliyah began her level 6 season at the Palm Springs Cup in January 2018 where she won the bars title and finished third on beam. Aaliyah improved at each meet throughout the season and at the SoCal State Championships, she won the bars title and qualified to the Region 1 Championships. Aaliyah had her best meet of her season at regionals and came home with a gold medal on bars, silver on floor, and bronze in the all around.
During the summer of 2018, Aaliyah participated in TOPs Testing for a second year and qualified to National Testing. From National Testing, Aaliyah made the TOPs National A Team.
Currently, Aaliyah trains 27 hours per week under coaches Alison Vaughn and Imelda Gutierrez at Aftershock Gymnastics. In the future, Aaliyah's goal is to qualify Hopes and earn a scholarship to a divison 1 school for gymnastics.
